Csenger is a border town close to Romania on the Szamos river, population circa 5,300.
The settlement was granted town status in March, 1989. In 1987-88 the Public Education Centre prepared a comprehensive study about Csenger’s condition and development opportunities, which was quite critical. Later, the Makona Design Company surveyed the buildings’ condition in the town centre, prepared plans for renovation or demolition and for the eventual redesign of the façade of a few buildings. Among the plans was the construction of a new elementary school, cultural centre and a sports hall. The sports hall was completed in 1992. Its structural design was prepared by Gusztáv Mertha.
The roofing of the hall was done with a laminated wood support structure.
The locker rooms and service areas with plumbing are located underneath the grandstand on one side, while the storage and equipment rooms are housed under the lower, corrugated roof.
